DigitalOcean Staff Software Engineer Job 2026: Role Overview
In this role, you will drive architecture for massive-scale infrastructure that simulates, tests, and evaluates AI agents. Moreover, you will build multi-agent, multi-turn simulation environments. You will also create synthetic user personas from historical telemetry. In addition, you will design “what-if” evaluation frameworks. The work covers LLM orchestration, synthetic data generation, and behavioral simulation. You will also define API contracts and shape the technical roadmap. Finally, you will mentor senior engineers and lead cross-org design reviews.
Requirements for This Role
You need 10+ years of experience at Staff, Principal, or Architect level designing mission-critical distributed systems. In addition, you need 5+ years with modern AI/ML frameworks and LLM orchestration. For example, you should know LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or custom multi-agent frameworks. Production experience with Python and Go is required. Moreover, an NLP data background helps, for example working with chat logs. You should also have experience building evaluation frameworks for non-deterministic AI systems, including metrics, guardrails, scoring rubrics, and regression testing. Because agents run at scale, you need async and state management skills, including token streaming and rate limits. You must be an expert in concurrent, fault-tolerant backend architectures. In addition, you need durable workflow orchestration at scale. Finally, you should have experience with resilient high-performance APIs using gRPC and message or event-driven architectures. AI/ML backend infrastructure experience is expected. However, you do not need an ML researcher background.
